Straight answers.

The questions operators actually ask, answered plainly.

The basics

What is POS-agnostic loss prevention?

How do convenience stores reduce shrink?

What’s the difference between loss prevention and case management?

It means the software works across any point-of-sale system rather than being locked to a single vendor. LPSecure ingests transaction data from systems like PDI Enterprise and Verifone Commander, and can build a connector for a new POS in about a week — so a chain doesn’t have to switch or standardize its POS to detect theft in its data.

By combining four things: analyzing POS transaction data to find internal theft (voids, refunds, sweethearting), ranking which stores and employees are highest-risk, investigating and recovering through a structured case process, and preventing recurrence through coaching and visible monitoring. Internal theft accounts for roughly 30–35% of retail shrink, and most of it leaves a signature in the transaction data.

Loss prevention is finding the theft — spotting suspicious transaction patterns and ranking risk. Case management is what happens next: investigating, gathering evidence, working with police if needed, and tracking to resolution and recovery. Most tools do one or the other. LPSecure does both — Loss Lens for detection, CaseSuite for case management.

Fit and cost

What POS systems does LPSecure support?

How much does LPSecure cost?

What is the 30-day pilot?

PDI Enterprise and Verifone Commander are supported today. Because LPSecure is POS-agnostic, new connectors are typically built in about a week — so if your POS isn’t on the list yet, it can usually be added before your first invoice. If your stores produce a transaction journal, LPSecure can analyze it.

Pricing is per store, per month, across four tiers: Starter ($19–29), Core ($59–99), Advanced ($109–179) and Managed ($249–399). Most chains land on Core. All tiers include daily transaction analysis; higher tiers add risk scoring, employee ranking, cross-store pattern detection, AI-drafted investigator output, and a done-for-you managed-analyst option.

A low-risk way to see the value before committing. You send 90 days of POS data; within 30 days LPSecure delivers a quantified loss report on your own stores — detected theft in dollars, your top-risk employees, and the anomaly patterns to investigate. It costs $2,500 for chains under 50 stores and $5,000 for 50+, credited in full against your first-year contract. If the findings don’t justify a contract, you walk away.

Accuracy

Won’t this just flag all my honest employees?

How do you know it’s theft and not just a busy employee?

Can LPSecure help with age-verification compliance?

No, and that is a design decision rather than a promise. An employee who mis-scans, corrects and rings the same item straight back has cost the store nothing, so Void, Error Correct and Void Line skip those events entirely. Whether the item that came back is the same item is decided on the manufacturer code and how much of the description matches — a corrected DIET PEPSI matches a re-rung PEPSI ZERO; COKE 20OZ and PEPSI 20OZ do not. A re-ring at a lower price always scores, because that is a price switch, not a correction.

Every employee is scored against their own peer group — peers at the same location — and the distance is reported as standard deviations from the peer median, with the size of that cohort shown. A detector also has to clear a minimum event count before it can move anyone’s score, so two events in a rare category cannot outrank ten at six times the rate. What you take into a conversation is “this employee voids at eleven standard deviations above the nine other people on the same register”, not a number out of a hundred.

Yes. It flags employees who key the same customer date of birth five or more times in a single day — the signature of a memorized birthday used to clear the age prompt instead of checking ID. Excursions roll up per employee over a rolling window, with a trend showing whether it is getting worse, and you can drill straight to the transactions. For a chain selling tobacco, vape and alcohol this is licence exposure that no shrink report will surface.

In practice

What do we hand the police?

How do we know it’s still working?

Can LPSecure work without cameras or video?

A case exports as a single evidence package, stamped with the case number, who extracted it, when it was extracted, and when the package expires. That is something a prosecutor can work from, rather than a folder of screenshots and a spreadsheet.

Every store’s data feed is monitored against a staleness threshold, and any location that stops sending is flagged. Silent data loss is the failure mode that quietly kills these systems — a store drops out, nobody notices for two months, and the chain concludes the product stopped finding anything. You will see it the week it happens.

Yes. Detection runs entirely on POS transaction data, with no camera dependency. Where you do have video, LPSecure helps your team narrow down which footage to review. Stores with weak camera coverage are often where the most loss is found.

Comparison, security and size

How is LPSecure different from Agilence, DTiQ, or spreadsheets?

Is my data secure?

What size chains is LPSecure for?

Agilence is horizontal retail analytics, not c-store-specific. DTiQ leads with video; analytics is a complement. Spreadsheets can’t risk-score a void or rank an employee across 40 stores. LPSecure is built specifically for convenience-store transaction patterns, runs detection through resolution in one platform, and is priced for the mid-market — so an Operations team can run it without a dedicated LP department.

LPSecure works from daily transaction extracts, not access to your production systems — there is nothing to install and no connection into your estate. Two-factor authentication and account lockout are built in, and every dashboard is scoped to the sites a user is assigned, so a district manager sees their district. Data handling is spelled out in the customer agreement.

The sweet spot is convenience-store chains of roughly 25–200 stores. Smaller chains can start with a self-serve pilot; larger chains up to 500 stores are supported as well.
